After a well-deserved lunch and taking the rest of the day to relax and recover. I got a good nights slipped and arrived at the pool the next morning, eager for my first individual swim, the 400m Individual Medley. The individual medley is a culmination of the four main competition strokes, Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Freestyle (in that order). It is one of the more challenging events not only physically but technically and strategically. I was seeded third in the event in my age group and my teammate had informed me that the two swimmers who were ahead of me were breaststrokers (he was racing them in his breaststroke events).
What really got me excited was watching the Paris 2018 delegation accept the Gay Games flag for the next games and hear their excitement about hosting the event. I knew that Cleveland had set the bar high and it feels like Paris is really going to try and top that, in addition I know they are expecting at least 12,000-14,000 athletes there and utilize their world class sporting venues for the events! In the end the Gay Games Cleveland were all that I hoped it would be and even more.
