She was very impressed and showed the medals to her colleagues as I told her about my experience, what the Gay Games were and how I did during the event. It was really amazing to share the story and as I packed the medals away again she said she wanted to host a little medal ceremony for my on the flight to recognize my accomplishment. Trying to be a little humble I initially said she didn’t have too but she insisted.
Halfway through the flight she takes one of my gold medals to the front of the plane and joins the rest of the cabin crew. On the PA system she announces who I am and my accomplishments at the Gay Games while showing the medal. She then encourages everybody on board to ring their call buttons for me to come up and be presented with my medal. I nervously walked up to the front as she put the medal around my neck and presented me with a little SWA certificate and peanut crown. I smiled and waved as I walked back, everybody applauded and received a few high fives and congratulations. I initially didn’t think winning those medals was a big deal but for the first time I really felt like it was.
